Oilfield technology and services provider ChampionX has announced the acquisition of ALP for an undisclosed sum.

The acquired company is a specialist in advanced analytics solutions for oil and gas production performance enhancement.

The acquisition integrates ALP’s expertise in artificial lift optimisation software with ChampionX’s existing technology, promising to deliver comprehensive analytics for improved production and equipment longevity.

ALP, which is based in Edinburgh, Scotland, has developed Pump Checker software, a tool designed to maximise production and extend the life of artificial lift equipment.

This software complements ChampionX’s XSPOC production optimisation software, creating a strong suite of analytics for all major artificial lift types and chemical applications.

ChampionX’s XSPOC software, which originated from the Theta production optimisation business unit in 2000, has been used in rod-lifted wells.

The integration of Pump Checker analytics is expected to enable operators to enhance production performance and equipment reliability in both electrical submersible pumping (ESP) systems and gas lift systems.

ChampionX president of production & automation technologies business segment Paul Mahoney said: “The acquisition of Artificial Lift Performance is key to our strategic focus on digital growth and our vision to deliver end-to-end digital solutions that enhance the productivity and profitability of our customers’ producing assets.”

ALP founder Sandy Williams said: “ChampionX and ALP have a shared vision for creating a true digital oilfield, backed by a technology road map rooted in customer needs and opportunities in the market.

“Our digital offerings are complementary and create differentiated value for our customers today and even more so in the future. Combining this technology synergy with a natural cultural fit sets our teams up for shared success.”

Recently, ChampionX introduced an ESP Control System for unconventional wells.

This technology is engineered to manage the demanding downhole conditions of ESP systems in these wells, which include fluctuating production rates, increasing gas intrusion and power quality challenges.
