Chevron Technology Ventures (CTV) has commissioned a pre-front end engineering design (pre-FEED) study to explore the potential of trialling Svante’s technology in its operations.
The study will analyse the feasibility and design aspects of adding a 10,000mtpa carbon capture pilot unit at a California-based Chevron facility.
The evaluation on the facility is expected to complete in the first half of this year.
Svante president and CEO Claude Letourneau said: “We are thrilled to be working alongside one of our earliest investors towards a solution that will contribute to a low carbon future. We have a demonstration plant in Saskatchewan capturing 10,000tpa from an industrial natural gas steam boiler.
“This project will take the learnings from our demonstration plant to design and build an improved second-of-a-kind facility using our state-of-the-art proprietary nano-filter technology.’’
CTV’s investment in Svante has been financed through Fund V, which supports early to mid-stage firms that develop advanced technologies to improve Chevron’s core business.

By GlobalDataIn 2018, CTV established a separate fundraising firm known as Future Energy Fund to solely invest in emerging technologies that strive towards energy transition.
CTV president Barbara Burger said: “Demonstrating this technology in the field is an important step in advancing a technology towards commercialisation and scale.
“Commissioning this study reflects our commitment to advance breakthrough innovation that will be important in a low carbon economy and help Chevron deliver on our mission to produce and provide affordable, reliable and ever-cleaner energy.”
