LNG export infrastructure development company Delfin Midstream has secured an agreement with Siemens Energy, reserving manufacturing capacity for four SGT-750 gas turbine mechanical drive packages.

These packages are essential for driving the mixed-refrigerant compressors in Delfin’s proposed LNG liquefaction system.

Furthermore, Delfin has initiated an Early Works programme with Samsung Heavy Industries and Black & Veatch.

This programme aims to refine the design specifications for the first floating LNG (FLNG) vessel, setting the stage for a lump-sum turnkey engineering, procurement, construction, and integration (EPCI) contract.

This preparatory work is designed to de-risk project execution and prepare the contractors for immediate action post-final investment decision (FID).

These developments are pivotal for the anticipated FID in late 2025 for Delfin’s energy infrastructure project in Louisiana and offshore in the Gulf of Mexico.

Delfin subsidiary Delfin LNG achieved a milestone by receiving the first deepwater port licence from the Maritime Administration (MARAD) on 21 March 2025.

This licence authorises the company to construct and operate, and export LNG from the US, a direct result of the Deepwater Port Act of 1974 and in line with US President Trump’s executive order ‘Unleashing American Energy’.

Delfin CEO Dudley Poston said: “This is an incredibly exciting time for the development of Delfin’s critical energy infrastructure project. Following the successful issuance of the deepwater port licence by MARAD, all workstreams are on schedule and the project is currently on track for FID in the fall [autumn] of 2025.

“By making this large investment to lock in critical manufacturing capacity, we have secured our execution schedule with the anticipated delivery of our first FLNG vessel from Samsung Heavy Industries shipyard in 2029.”

Delfin’s project, leveraging low-cost FLNG technology, is poised to be the first of its kind in the US.

With the capacity to produce up to 13.2 million tonnes of LNG a year, the project stands to make a substantial economic impact, creating jobs.

Delfin Midstream reported significant headway in obtaining the necessary permits and approvals for its energy project earlier this year.
