Entergy Texas has broken ground on the Legend and Lone Star power stations, two new natural gas‑fired plants that will add more than 1.2GW of generation capacity in south-east Texas.
The facilities, approved by the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT) in 2025, are expected to begin serving customers in 2028 and could supply enough electricity for more than 300,000 homes.

The projects are part of Entergy’s Southeast Texas Energy Plan (STEP Ahead), which is designed to match the region’s rapid population and industrial growth with additional, reliable generation. Alongside the earlier Orange County Advanced Power Station, scheduled to start operating later this year, the trio of plants will bring more than 2.4GW of new capacity online for the region by 2028.
State and local officials including Texas Governor Greg Abbott and PUCT Commissioner Courtney Hjaltman described the plants as key to strengthening energy security and supporting continued industrial growth in one of the busiest corridors of the Texas grid.
Entergy Texas, which operates within the Midcontinent Independent System Operator‑linked grid, framed the investment as a balance between reliability, affordability and future‑proofing the system with a mix of modern gas, nuclear and renewables.
