Energy services provider Expro has secured a contract to supply tubular running services (TRS) for the first offshore carbon capture and storage (CCS) system in the Netherlands.
The project aligns with Expro’s sustainability goals and involves converting legacy offshore gas production wells into CO₂ injection wells.
As part of the project, shallow wells will be decommissioned and platform slot recovery wells will be drilled.
Expro will utilise its non-marking TRS technology, designed to run corrosion-resistant alloy (CRA) tubulars, to maximise pipe longevity in a corrosive CO₂ environment.
Expro’s non-marking TRS technology is specifically engineered to address the challenges of long-term well integrity assurance in highly corrosive CO₂ environments.
This innovation is expected to enhance the durability of the pipelines, ensuring efficient and sustainable operations.
Expro regional vice-president for Europe and sub-Saharan Africa Iain Farley said: “Securing this contract for this major CCS project highlights Expro’s advanced technical expertise in deploying CRA tubulars.
“The specific technologies being used throughout the project are proven in the oil and gas sector and it is fantastic to see these capabilities helping to unlock the potential of the CCS sector. Expro TRS services are designed for safety, efficiency and precision, and so we look to be playing a vital role in supporting the success of this project.
“Expro has a well-earned reputation for delivering high-performance solutions for complex well construction challenges and we are committed to pioneering solutions for energy transition challenges. This contract cements the company’s role in advancing sustainable practices in the offshore energy sector.”
Expro integrates future-facing technology with high-quality data across well construction, well flow management and production, subsea well access and well integrity and intervention.
Earlier this month, Expro extended its partnership with Perenco to strengthen UK North Sea operations.
This agreement reinforces Expro’s commitment to supporting Perenco’s southern North Sea operations, delivered from facilities in Great Yarmouth, UK.
Since 2012, when Perenco began acquiring producing gas assets in the southern North Sea, Expro’s range of services has expanded to include well testing and tubular running services.
