Honeywell has acquired Ortloff Engineers to help customers maximise returns on natural gas processing and oil refining investments.

Founded in 1962, Ortloff Engineers is a licenser and developer of specialised technologies that deliver greater returns in natural gas processing and sulphur recovery.

The company will operate as part of Honeywell UOP’s gas processing and hydrogen business.

The acquisition will allow Honeywell to offer advanced expertise in the recovery of high-value natural gas liquids (NGLs) from natural gas streams.

“This differentiated, highly advanced technology, allows our customers to meet stringent process guarantees, while their operations perform at a best-in-class level.”

The deployment of Ortloff technologies is expected to enable customers to maximise gas separation and achieve high operational flexibility and improved returns on their plant investments.

In addition, the acquisition will give Honeywell access to technologies for removing sulphur from refinery feedstocks.

These technologies help enhance plant reliability and operability over the refinery lifecycle.

Honeywell UOP president John Gugel said: “For decades, Ortloff technology has defined the forefront of gas processing technology. That enables our customers to realise very high returns from their investments in natural gas separation.

“This differentiated, highly advanced technology, allows our customers to meet stringent process guarantees, while their operations perform at a best-in-class level. Ortloff also has unmatched expertise in sulphur recovery that ties in extremely well with our gas and refining portfolios.”

The company has been working with Ortloff since 2002, offering the technologies to its customers.

Honeywell UOP gas processing and hydrogen vice-president and general manager Rachelle Goebel stated that the transaction is complementary to its existing offerings and will allow the company to cater to customer needs for high-recovery NGL extraction plants globally.

Ortloff is specialised in cryogenic gas liquids recovery, LNG processing, sulphur recovery and sour gas processing plant design.
