Kosmos Energy has revealed plans to re-spud the Anapai-1 well in Block-45 offshore Suriname as it encountered stability issues at the shallow bore hole.

The company has reconfigured Anapai-1A design to address the issues, and estimates around 50 to 60 days to drill the well. Results from the project are expected to be available in the third quarter of this year.

Kosmos is said to have incurred about $20m for drilling the well to date.

A statement from Kosmos Energy read: “The Anapai-1 well drilling in Block-45 offshore Suriname encountered shallow bore hole stability issues before reaching the target interval. Kosmos and its partner will re-spud the well, Anapai-1A, targeting the same objectives.”

“The company gained a position offshore Suriname in December 2011, enabling exploration of the north-east margin of South America.”

Kosmos has rights in the Block 45 and Block 42 areas under production sharing contracts with Staatsolie Maatschappij Suriname of the Suriname Government.

The company is the exploration operator of both blocks, where it holds a 50% working interest in Block 45 and 33% interest in Block 42. It is joined by its partner Chevron on Block 45, and both Chevron and Hess for Block 42.
