Amec Foster Wheeler has secured a front-end engineering design (FEED) contract for Total Raffinage France’s Donges refinery.

Through the FEED project, Total is looking to increase fuel production capacity of the refinery.

The project is a result of Total’s resolve to upgrade the refinery, which does not have desulphurisation capacity, resulting in fuels being exported due to non-compliance of quality standards as per European Union specifications.

Work as part of the FEED contract includes a new vacuum gas oil hydrotreater unit and sour water stripping unit, in addition to modification of existing units and new interconnections.

Collating documents, data, and models of the plant, the Asset Information Hub (AIH) is meant for showcasing a digital representation of the physical plant.

The information management system is used to control and review aspects of the plant throughout its life.

Used in collaboration with Aveva’s Virtual Plant technology, AIH enables a designer to move around an asset and review data that is hosted in the AIH.

Amec Foster intends to utilise the AIH to improve efficiency and project delivery.

The work assigned as part of the contract is scheduled to be completed in the fourth quarter of this year.
