West Africa oil and gas explorer Bowleven has discovered 8m of net hydrocarbon pay at the Sapele-3 well on block MLHP-5 in the Douala Basin, offshore Cameroon.
The Sapele-3 well is located 16km north-west of Sapele-1 and 13km north-west of the D-1r wells.
Bowleven, which was drilled to a total depth of 4,480m and a water depth of 30m, will be suspended for future re-entry, testing and potential use as a development well.
Previously, the company encountered 11m of net pay within the Deep Omicron interval.
Once the suspension operations are complete, the jack-up rig Sapphire Driller will be released from its contract.
Bowleven intends to pursue a work programme that includes up to three appraisal wells and one exploration well on the Etinde permit in 2012.
