The fire occurred during repair work being carried out in the well N71.

Gunashli is one of the oldest offshore gas fields in Azerbaijan.

SOCAR is developing the field’s shallow portion while BP-led consortium is developing its deepwater part in the Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli block of fields.

The fire was extinguished by fire-fighting vessels of the Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Company, and Vortex-5 and Vortex-7 vessels of the Service of Fire Safety of Ministry of Emergency Situations (MES), reported Azernews.az.

An investigation is being carried out to determine how the fire started.
