Abu Dhabi-based National Petroleum Construction Company (NPCC) has been awarded an engineering and construction contract worth AED550m ($149.7m) from India’s Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC).

NPPC will build the WO-16 cluster and SB-14 wellhead platforms project at the offshore Mumbai High Field. The scope of work involves engineering, procurement, fabrication, installation, hook-up, pre-commissioning and commissioning for five wellhead platforms.

NPCC carried out the B-22 field development project and the RS-12 well platform project, both of which were simultaneously completed in 18 months and handed over in April 2011, according to khaleejtimes.com.

NPCC is executing the B-series – 6 wellhead platforms project, which will be completed in April 2012. The company said that detailed design and engineering works will be carried out at NPCC Engineering Limited in Mumbai, while fabrication will be executed in Abu Dhabi. The fast-track project is to be completed by 15 May 2013.

The current contract was secured after two rounds of bidding in which several international and local Indian contractors were involved. NPCC intends to secure more projects this year and is optimistic about its prospects. The firm will target projects in Saudi Arabia as well as new markets such as Angola, Iraq, Kazakhstan, Nigeria and South East Asia.
