North Oil Company (NOC) has selected Ramboll to conduct a pre-feed study for three new wellhead platforms at Al-Shaheen field off Qatar's north-eastern coast in the Arabian Gulf. 

Situated 80km north of Doha, Al-Shaheen includes an area of 2.214km² and currently produces nearly 300,000bpd of oil. The field covers nearly 40% of Qatar’s total oil output.

The objective of the pre-feed study is to secure production at the three new wellhead platforms and optimise their recovery potential.

Earlier, the company completed a detailed brownfield design on Al-Shaheen field.

Maersk Oilwas in charge of the development of the field since 1992.

From July this year, NOC, a joint venture between Qatar Petroleum and Total, will operate the field for the next 25 years.
