Subsea 7 has been contracted by Cooper Energy for the Sole Development Project in the eastern part of the Gippsland Basin, nearly 40km offshore from Victoria, Australia.

Under the contract, Subsea 7 will perform the subsea tie-back of the Sole well to the Orbost Gas Plant that includes fabrication and installation of 64km pipeline, spool and manifold.

In addition, Subsea 7 holds responsibility for installation of a 64km umbilical and the commissioning of the system.

Subsea 7 managing director Australia and New Zealand Andy Woolgar said: “We are delighted to have been awarded this key project from Cooper Energy Ltd.

“This award draws upon Subsea 7’s substantial experience of delivering projects in the Gippsland Basin over the last 40 years.

“We look forward to leveraging this established and proven record in pipeline fabrication and offshore installation to help Cooper Energy as it develops its offshore gas resources.”

Subsea 7 has planned to begin project management and engineering services from its office in Perth, Australia.

Offshore operations are scheduled to start next year. Material offshore operations will depend on the final investment decision of Sole Development Project, which is expected soon.

Cooper Energy previously announced that the Sole Gas Project is now advanced to the final stage before commitment.

The project is expected to be sanctioned this month as the final financing process is currently underway.
