Petronas Energy & Gas Trading (PEGT) has secured additional gas supplies to mitigate disruptions caused by a fire at the Petronas Gas Berhad (PGB) pipeline near Putra Heights, Selangor, Malaysia.
The incident, which occurred on 1 April 2025, prompted PEGT to take proactive measures to ensure the stability of gas supplies across affected areas.
In collaboration with Kementerian Peralihan Tenaga Dan Transformasi Air (PETRA), Suruhanjaya Tenaga (ST) and other stakeholders, PEGT has successfully increased its gas supply by 155 million standard cubic feet per day (mscf/d).
This brings the total supply to 400mscf/d via the Trans Thailand-Malaysia gas pipeline system.
This additional supply has stabilised gas availability in the northern region of Peninsular Malaysia, including areas such as Bestari Jaya, Meru and Kapar.
Furthermore, an extra 86mscf/d has been made available to the Serdang City Gate for the Interconnected Klang Valley Distribution network.

By GlobalDataPEGT is working with Gas Malaysia to enhance the gas distribution network’s capacity.
Initially, four power plants – Connaught Bridge, Pulau Indah, Serdang and Kapar – were affected.
However, gas supply to the Kapar and Serdang plants has been reinstated, allowing them to resume normal operations.
PGB, the infrastructure owner, estimates that full restoration could occur by 1 July 2025, pending ongoing investigations and regulatory approvals.
PEGT has communicated this timeline to its customers and continues to work closely with ST, PETRA and other stakeholders to minimise power sector disruptions.
PEGT remains committed to ensuring gas supply stability and will maintain collaboration with authorities and stakeholders to address the situation effectively.
