Sasol South Africa’s operating division Secunda Synfuels Operations is set to deploy a Honeywell Connected Plant service to monitor the operating reliability of its two Honeywell UOP CCR Platforming units at its refinery in Secunda, South Africa.
As part of the contract, Sasol will use the Honeywell Connected Plant Process Reliability Advisor platform, which streams plant data through Honeywell UOP fault models to provide performance analysis and recommendations.
Secunda Synfuels technical support vice-president Stefan Opperman said: “This initiative forms part of a range of digitisation efforts that are being evaluated at Secunda Synfuels Operations.
“All of these efforts aim to utilise predictive analytics to improve plant performance and reduce costs.”
The service will enable the plant to mitigate issues and monitor unit performance.
Honeywell UOP Connected Plant vice-president Zak Alzein said: “Process Reliability Advisor is unique in the industry because it analyses site-specific process data using Honeywell UOP’s proprietary process knowledge and deep troubleshooting experience.

The Process Reliability Advisor allows staff at refineries and gas processing plants to resolve processing issues that avoid detection and affect production.
Secunda Synfuels Operations produces synthesis gas (syngas) through coal gasification and natural gas reforming at its manufacturing facility.
The company converts syngas into synthetic fuel components, pipeline gas and chemical feedstock to support the production of downstream products such as solvents, polymers, comonomers and other chemicals.
