Seatrium has secured a contract from Karpowership to convert a liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier into floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) the LNGT Akdeniz, the ninth FSRU conversion project between the companies.

Work on the vessel is due to begin in the first quarter of 2027 (Q1 2027).

Seatrium will handle engineering, conversion work, equipment integration, installation and commissioning of the regasification plant and associated systems.

The LNGT Akdeniz is set to join the LNG fleet of Kinetics, Karpowership’s energy transition initiative. The vessel is designed with a regasification capacity of nearly 600 million standard cubic feet per day (mscf/d).

The contract follows the delivery of the LNGT Türkiye and comes while the conversion of the LNGT Karadeniz remains under way.

Seatrium said it has delivered seven FSRUs to Karpowership since 2018, with the LNGT Karadeniz representing the eighth project in their conversion programme.

Karpowership chief technical operations officer Gokhan Kocak said: “The successful delivery of LNGT Türkiye and the award of LNGT Akdeniz are important milestones in the continued growth of Karpowership’s LNG-to-Power business. Together, these FSRUs strengthen our ability to provide reliable and flexible energy solutions to markets where energy security is critical.

“Seatrium has been a key enabler of this journey, consistently delivering high-quality FSRU conversions that support our operational requirements and long-term growth plans. As global demand for flexible energy infrastructure continues to grow, we look forward to advancing our ongoing projects and exploring new opportunities together.”

The LNGT Akdeniz award is the second project to proceed under a previously announced letter of intent (LoI) between Seatrium and Karpowership.

The LoI also covered three FSRU conversions and the possible integration of up to six new-generation Powerships.

Seatrium said it has completed 22 FSRU and floating storage unit conversion projects since 2007. Karpowership operates 45 Powerships, while Kinetics’ LNG fleet is expected to reach 12 vessels with the LNGT Akdeniz included.

In July 2025, Seatrium secured a contract for an FSRU conversion from Kinetics.
