BP has awarded a service contract for operations in the Caspian Sea to a joint venture of UK-based oilfield services provider Petrofac and Azerbaijan’s state-owned oil and gas firm Socar.

Socar-Petrofac JV will provide project management services to support BP’s operations in Azerbaijan and Georgia.

Petrofac EPS East managing director Mani Rajapathy said: “Petrofac has been active in Azerbaijan for over 15 years, providing skills development opportunities and services across the country’s oil and gas and petrochemical industries, so this award further underpins our international presence.

“We have worked with BP previously in the region and we are well positioned and committed to providing safe, reliable and efficient support in the delivery of their significant projects moving forwards in Azerbaijan and Georgia.”

The JV will support onshore and offshore projects operated by BP in the Caspian Sea area. These projects include the Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli (ACG) and Shah Deniz oil, gas and condensate fields in addition to Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline, South Caucasus Pipeline (SCP) and Western Route Export Pipeline (WREP).

Socar vice-president Khalik Mammadov said: “We have established a successful partnership with Petrofac that continues to flourish, the joint venture combines our respective experience, local knowledge and depth of capabilities.”
