
GlobalData, a leading data and analytics company, has revealed its league tables for the top ten legal advisers by value and volume in the oil and gas sector for Q1-Q3 2022.
A total of 1,446 merger and acquisition (M&A) deals worth $202.1bn were announced in the sector during Q1-Q3 2022.
Top advisers by value and volume
According to GlobalData’s ‘Global and Oil & Gas M&A Report Legal Adviser League Tables Q1-Q3 2022’, Kirkland & Ellis and Vinson & Elkins emerged as the top M&A legal advisers in the oil and gas sector for Q1-Q3 2022 by value and volume, respectively.
Kirkland & Ellis advised on $35.5bn worth of deals while Vinson & Elkins advised on a total of 43 deals.
GlobalData lead analyst Aurojyoti Bose said: “The competition for the top position by volume was tight as Vinson & Elkins and Kirkland & Ellis were the only advisers with more than 40 deals each during Q1-Q3 2022. While Vinson & Elkins led by volume, Kirkland & Ellis was just short of only one deal to secure the top spot.
“Kirkland & Ellis, which led by value, occupied the second position by volume with 42 deals. Vinson & Elkins, apart from leading by volume, also managed to occupy the second position by value by advising deals worth $33.3bn.”
According to the financial deals database of GlobalData, the other high rankers by value included Latham & Watkins that secured the third position with $30.8bn worth of deals. This was followed by Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher with $17bn, and Baker Botts with $14.9bn.
In terms of volume, Latham & Watkins got the third spot with 28 deals, followed by Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher with 18 deals, and Baker Botts with 16 deals.
