Zenith will manage the permanent plugging and abandonment of nine subsea wells in the Laminaria-Corallina oilfields, situated in the Timor Sea approximately 550km north-west of Darwin.

Phase two focuses on the permanent plugging, abandonment and delivery of operations required to safely seal the nine wells, which were previously connected to the Northern Endeavour floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) facility.

The FPSO, measuring 274m in length, was previously stationed between the Laminaria and Corallina oilfields.

Following the completion of phase one of the programme, the FPSO has been disconnected, removed and sent to a recycling facility.

The decommissioning programme aims to ensure the safe and responsible decommissioning of former offshore production facilities and associated subsea infrastructure.

The current phase represents a critical stage in securing the long-term integrity of the oil wells and environmental stewardship of the site.

Under the terms of the contract, Zenith is tasked with full project management and engineering services for phase two.

This includes developing execution plans, securing regulatory approvals, managing the offshore plugging and abandonment campaign, and overseeing storage, transportation and field monitoring activities.

The contract also covers preparation for the transfer of responsibilities to the next phase of the programme, pending further Commonwealth approval.

Zenith Energy Australia vice-president Ross Nicholson said: “This award further strengthens Zenith Energy’s position as a trusted independent well management and engineering specialist, delivering solutions across the full well life cycle, from drilling and completions through to intervention and decommissioning.

“As offshore assets around the world move into late life, the demand for safe, technically robust and environmentally responsible decommissioning solutions continues to grow.

“Zenith is committed to supporting operators and government organisations by combining experienced personnel, strong engineering processes and practical project delivery expertise to reduce risk and achieve successful outcomes.”

Zenith Energy Australia is part of the Aberdeen, UK-headquartered Zenith Energy Group.
