BW Energy begins production from third well in Hibiscus/Ruche development

With current output at around 6,000 barrels of oil per day, well performance is in line with expectations.

Norwegian oil and gas company BW Energy has started production from the third well of the Hibiscus/Ruche Phase 1 development in the Dussafu licence off the coast of Gabon.

The licence sits in the 850 km² Ruche Exclusive Exploitation Area (Ruche EEA), which has an average water depth of 116m.

With current output at around 6,000 barrels of oil per day (bopd), well performance is in line with expectations, the company said.

From the BW MaBoMo production facility, the DHIBM-5H well was drilled horizontally into the Gamba sandstone reservoir at the Hibiscus field, reaching a total depth of 4,245m.

Now, the Borr Norve jack-up started drilling the fourth producing well (DHIBM-6H).

BW Energy CEO Carl Krogh Arnet said: "We continue to see robust production rates and receive well data that confirms excellent reservoir quality. This supports our expectations for continued successive production growth in Gabon through 2023 and into early 2024 as we complete the drilling program.”

The first oil from the Hibiscus/Ruche Phase 1 development was produced in April this year.

BW Energy aims to drill two Ruche Gamba and four Hibiscus Gamba wells, which are anticipated to increase oil output to almost 40,000bopd by the time all wells are finished in early 2024.

Pipelines carry the oil produced at Hibiscus / Ruche to the BW Adolo FPSO, where it is processed and stored before being offloaded onto export vessels.
