Engineering solutions provider Seatrium has won a contract to upgrade the Hilli Episeyo, a floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) vessel owned by Golar Hilli, a subsidiary of Golar LNG.

The upgrade, scheduled to commence in the third quarter (Q3) of next year, is aimed at preparing the vessel for redeployment in the Gulf of San Matias, offshore Argentina.

Seatrium Americas Energy executive vice-president Marlin Khiew said: "We are honoured to be entrusted once again by Golar with this FLNG upgrading contract.

“FLNG Hilli Episeyo is a testament to the strong track record of the projects we have delivered to Golar over the years and reflects their confidence in Seatrium as a partner in the development, conversion and upgrading of high-quality, sustainable and robust production units.”

The project scope encompasses engineering, the installation of a new soft-yoke mooring system, life extension, procurement of long-lead items, repair and winterisation.

Upon recommencing operations in 2027, the Hilli Episeyo will liquefy gas from the Vaca Muerta Shale formation for 20 years, with a nameplate capacity of 2.45 million tonnes per annum.

The upgrade of the Hilli Episeyo is part of Seatrium's commitment to supporting the energy transition, with liquefied natural gas (LNG) serving as a transitional fuel.

The vessel was initially converted and delivered by Seatrium in 2017.

In 2023, the company delivered the FLNG vessel Gimi to Golar, which recently commenced commercial operations at the Greater Tortue Ahmeyim field.

Seatrium's expertise in LNG-related cryogenic systems dates back to its first LNG carrier drydocking and ship repair in the 1980s.

The company is engaged in providing intricate solutions for the LNG value chain, encompassing conversions, newbuilds and repairs.

Last May, Seatrium secured a contract from Höegh Evi, Norway, to convert an LNG carrier into a floating storage and regasification unit.
