Rosneft has discovered two new oil and gas fields at the Sanarsky and Preobrazhensky licence areas located in the Katangsky district of Irkutsk in Eastern Siberia.

The company said that because the new fields’ oil pools have a complex geological structure, deeper geological exploration work is required to determine reserve quantities and the best methods for extraction.

The new fields are located 130km and 70km to the west of Rosneft’s Verkhnechonsk oil and gas condensate field.

Rosneft will also carry out 1,501 linear kilometres of 2D seismic studies and 250km² of 3D seismic studies at the fields in 2011, with the drilling of five new wells at Mogdinsky, Preobrazhensky, Sanarsky and Danilovksy and West-Chonsky.
