Saudi Arabian Oil (Saudi Aramco) has awarded a front-end engineering design (FEED) and project management services contract to Foster Wheeler SOFCON for a clean transportation fuels project at the Riyadh refinery in Saudi Arabia.
The aim of the project is to reduce the sulphur content of petrol and diesel produced by the refinery to ten parts per million, and to reduce the level of benzene in petrol.
The scope of work will include new isomerisation, naphtha splitting and sulphur guard-bed units, as well as the addition of new equipment, including a diesel hydrotreater reactor, in existing units.
The work will also include the debottlenecking of the hydrocracker and gas concentration units, and the replacement of crude and vacuum distillation tower internals.
