Chile’s Empresa Nacional del Petroleo (Enap) will bring its second refinery online next week, following the recent earthquake that has devastated the country.
Refineria Aconcagua has a refining capacity of 104,000 barrels a day and is located on the coast northwest of Santiago.
The other two refineries, Refineria Bio Bio en Concepcion, which was closer to the epicentre of the 8.8-magnitude quake, has suffered structural damage and is still idle.
Enap has enough petrol to last two weeks and a ten-day supply of diesel fuel, the company said.
The firm provides for about 80% of Chile’s fuel needs and exports refined products to Peru, Ecuador and Central America.
