UK oil and gas trade body OGUK has said the number of suspected coronavirus cases on North Sea installations is falling.

Over the last month, the number of workers returning from offshore with symptoms of Covid-19 in a given week has fallen from 19 to eight.

It cannot confirm whether the symptoms were related to coronavirus for reasons of medical confidentiality.

OGUK HSE Director Trevor Stapleton said: “This apparent reduction is a small move in the right direction, but we can’t stress enough the need to remain alert, to continue to follow protocols and to raise any concerns in both on and offshore working environments.”

The organisation is currently collaborating with worker safety group Step Change in Safety for better and more widespread virus testing of workers.
