Global polyvinyl chloride capacity is poised to see considerable growth through additions over the next five years, potentially increasing from 60.38Mtpa in 2020 to 67.56Mtpa in 2025, registering total growth of 12%.

GlobalData’s latest report, ‘Global Polyvinyl Chloride Industry Outlook to 2025 – Capacity and Capital Expenditure Forecasts with Details of All Active and Planned Plants’, states that around 35 planned and announced plants are slated to come online primarily in Asia and North America.

Within Asia, China has seven planned and announced chlorine projects, with a total capacity of about 3.65Mtpa by 2025. The country is expected to spend a capital expenditure (CapEx) of $0.95bn. Major capacity additions will be from Xinjiang Zhongtai Chemical Company Baicheng PVC Plant.

North America has four planned and announced projects and major capacity additions will be from Formosa Plastics Corporation Point Comfort PVC Plant. The CapEx for the plants is $0.35bn by 2025.

In Europe, Belgium has one planned project with the capacity additions of about 0.20Mtpa by 2021. The country is expected to spend a total of $0.02bn. INOVYN Jemeppe PVC Plant is the only plant accounting for the entire capacity additions in the country.
