Global styrene-butadiene-rubber (SBR) capacity is poised to see considerable growth over the next five years, potentially increasing from 8.17Mtpa in 2020 to 15.21Mtpa in 2025, registering total growth of 86%.

GlobalData’s latest report, ‘Global Styrene-Butadiene-Rubber (SBR) Industry Outlook to 2025 – Capacity and Capital Expenditure Forecasts with Details of All Active and Planned Plants’ states that around seven planned and announced plants are slated to come online primarily in Asia and the Middle East.

Within Asia, India has one planned and two announced SBR plants, with a total capacity of about 6.65Mtpa by 2025. The country is expected to spend a capital expenditure (CAPEX) of $8.59bn. Major capacity additions will be from Reliance Industries Jamnagar styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR) plant.

In the Middle East, only Iran has one planned project with the capacity additions of about 0.14Mtpa by 2025. The country is expected to spend a total of $0.02bn. Sadaf Petrochemical Assaluyeh Styrene-Butadiene Rubber (SBR) Plant is the only plant accounting for the entire capacity additions in the country.

Reliance Industries Ltd, Sadaf Petrochemical Assaluyeh Co and China Petrochemical Corp are the major companies globally in terms of planned and announced capacity additions over the upcoming years.
