GlobalData’s latest report, ‘Global Polycarbonate Industry Outlook to 2023 – Capacity and Capital Expenditure Forecasts with Details of All Active and Planned Plants’ states that around 15 planned and announced plants are slated to come online predominantly in Asia by 2023.

Among regions, Asia leads with the largest capacity additions for the upcoming polycarbonate plants by 2023. For the upcoming new-build plants, the region is expected to add a capacity of 1.81mtpa from seven planned and announced plants, while for the expansion of existing polycarbonate plants, the region is expected to add a capacity of 0.54mtpa from seven planned and announced plants.

Among the countries, China leads with the largest capacity additions, with a capacity of 2.24mtpa from 13 planned and announced plants. The major capacity additions will be from the plants, ‘Shenma Industrial Company Kaifeng Polycarbonate Plant’ and ‘Shenma Industrial Company Pingdingshan Polycarbonate Plant’, which is expected to come onstream by 2023.

South Korea is the only other country with a polycarbonate capacity of 0.11mtpa by 2023. The entire capacity additions for South Korea will be from a planned plant, ‘Lotte Chemical Corporation Yeosu Polycarbonate Plant’.

Among Companies, Shenma Industrial had the largest capacity additions from planned and announced polycarbonate plants by 2023, with estimated capacity additions of 0.8mtpa from two planned plants.
