A total of 510 planned and announced trunk or transmission oil and gas pipelines are expected to come online during 2019–2023, according to GlobalData.

In its latest report, entitled ‘H2 2019 Global Length and Capital Expenditure Outlook for Oil and Gas Pipelines – India and the US Dominate New-Build Pipeline Length Additions’ the group says that of the 510 pipelines, 339 represents planned pipelines with identified development plans, while 171 shows the count of early-stage announced pipelines that are undergoing conceptual studies and are expected to get approval for development.

North America leads globally in terms of oil and gas pipeline length growth with a new-build pipeline length of 44,781km by 2023. Asia follows with a new-build pipeline length of 43,766km.

Among countries, the US leads with the highest planned and announced pipeline length of 34,392km during 2019–2023. India stands second with 23,344km of pipelines, followed by Russia, China, and Canada with 14,669km, 8,905km, and 7,732km, respectively.

Among companies, in terms of trunk oil and gas pipelines length, Gazprom leads with 16,361km from planned and announced projects during the outlook period of 2019–2023. Indian Oil Corp Ltd and GAIL (India) Ltd follow with pipeline length growth of 9,661km and 7,096km, respectively.

The largest planned and announced pipeline projects globally in terms of length by 2023 are the Trans Saharan Gas pipeline, Power Of Siberia 1 (China Section) gas pipeline and the Jagdishpur–Haldia pipeline, with lengths of 4,400km, 3,371km, and 2,655km, respectively.
