Sword CTSpace Featured in World Expro Magazine’s September Issue

Sword CTSpace, a global provider of document management and collaboration workflow applications for the engineering and construction industries, is the subject of an article in the September 2010 issue of World Expro Magazine, a publication described in a profile on the website as providing “detailed technical analysis of the latest industry thinking regarding the key stages of exploration and production, created to meet the specific needs of senior board members, operations, procurement and E&P heads within the upstream industry.”

The article details the increased importance of document management systems with full engineering functionality as government oversight of the upstream industry strengthens internationally and addresses how Sword CTSpace in particular stands as the surest response to increased requirements, with the depth, quality, and variety of its solutions. Ita also provides a case study of the Moroccan oil refining company SAMIR using Sword CTSpace to manage documents and workflows as it expanded and retooled its operations.

Interested readers, perhaps including professionals in the upstream industry concerned with the direction of government regulation and their companies’ current methods of addressing them, will be given new insight into their concerns, as well as the best probably solution to their compliance and document management needs.

“Major oil and gas producers are looking for ways to gain greater control over their operations and identify potential problems,” the article starts off. “Reappraising electronic content management strategies will be critical and, while most companies already have a programme in place, the present climate means the mass of technical drawings, specifications and data that make up engineering documentation need to bear up to fresh scrutiny,” it continues.

Sword CTSpace global products director Tim Fleet then speaks in depth about the issues currently facing the upstream industry and how Sword CTSpace products address them head-on. “Our technology in the operations and maintenance of the industry is about managing documentation that describes how people do things to an asset, recording the results of what they have done and providing documentation to describe what they’re working with.

“Those elements are absolutely key to the operation of any facility. Major oil and gas companies have got infrastructure in place that is managing content across the whole of their organisation but they don’t provide the application level functionality that we do for the engineering world. What we’re doing is giving these folks an application that is useful for managing capital projects but allowing them to store the documentation and information into their existing structure.”

This is followed by a description of the work done by Sword CTSpace client SAMIR as it expanded its Mohammedia refinery complex.

“Currently we are implementing an electronic document management system aimed at optimising workflows and keeping track of all our internal documentation. Fusion is now in place to manage technical and refining information,” SAMIR’s technical services director is quoted as saying in the World Expro article. The article states: “SAMIR worked to bring non-technical data into the FileNet system but the additional features of Fusion were required to manage the high volumes of engineering and maintenance information.”

Sword CTSpace sets itself apart from its competitors with its experience – more than 20 years of developing solutions tailored to support the specific requirements of clients such as Chevron, Exxon Mobil, Shell, Marathon, Husky Oil, Petrobras, Esso Petroleum, Qatar Petroleum. Its solutions include FusionLive, a cloud / SaaS collaboration and content management offering; and FusionEnterprise, document management and collaboration solutions that focus on enhancing an organisation’s chosen Enterprise Content Management (ECM) system such as IBM® FileNet®, EMC® Documentum®, or Microsoft® SharePoint®.
