Cladtek has been awarded a contract by TechnipFMC for Petrobras’ inaugural HISEP® project to be deployed in the Mero 3 field. The field is located within the Libra Block in the Santos Basin, approximately 180km off the coast of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Cladtek will supply Corrosion-Resistant Alloy (CRA) clad pipes and bends, engineered for durability in highly corrosive subsea environments. This contract is one of Petrobras’ largest weld overlay agreements, and Cladtek continues to play an integral role as the only local supplier of weld overlay pipes and bends. Cladtek will contribute high local content to the project, utilising in-house clad and bending capabilities. This contract highlights Cladtek’s vital role in the region’s supply chain. Cladtek’s locally produced CRA products enable Petrobras to produce some of the most decarbonised oil in the world, with CO₂ emissions per barrel up to 70% lower than the global average.
The Mero 3 project is the first to deploy Petrobras’ proprietary High-Pressure Separation (HISEP) technology, allowing the separation of produced associated gas, rich in CO₂, at the sea floor, by transferring part of the separation process from the Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) to the seabed. The HISEP® technology has the potential to boost production by freeing up the surface gas processing capacity while reducing greenhouse gas emissions. This technology is expected to reduce emissions, improve equipment longevity, and optimise operational efficiency by reducing FPSO size by up to 30%.
“This project marks a significant milestone for Cladtek as we expand our local capacity to strengthen the new energy sector. Our Brazilian facility continues to support the development of Brazil’s natural resources with a strong local team of over 750 Brazilians and local content. We are proud to collaborate with TechnipFMC and Petrobras on this important initiative for Brazil and look forward to future collaboration on upcoming projects,” said Eduardo Menezes, Cladtek’s SVP Global Engineering, Projects, & TAM Region.
Through this partnership, Cladtek continues to demonstrate its leadership in delivering innovative, sustainable, and cost-effective solutions for the energy sector. Its strong focus is on safely delivering high-quality products on time. The project commenced in October 2024 and is targeted for completion by the end of Q4 2025.
