Cladtek to Supply Mechanically Lined Pipes (MLPs) for Atapu-2 Subsea Programme, Offshore Brazil
Cladtek has been awarded a contract by a major offshore engineering and construction contractor to supply a Mechanically Lined Pipes (MLPs) solution for the Atapu-2 ultra-deepwater pre-salt field development, approximately 230km offshore Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The scope supports the contractor’s rigid riser-based subsea solution for Atapu-2, following Petrobras’ award for the design, procurement, construction and installation of 139km of rigid risers and flowlines in water depths exceeding 2,000m. The subsea network will connect 16 new and four existing wells to a new FPSO via steel catenary risers in a ‘lazy wave’ configuration.
Cladtek will supply 139km of MLP and special items. The solution is designed to support long-life subsea integrity by enhancing corrosion resistance in critical infrastructure, which reduces lifecycle maintenance requirements.
Eduardo Menezes, SVP – Global Engineering, Project & The Americas Region at Cladtek, said: “Ultra-deepwater developments demand predictable quality and materials engineered for long-life performance. This engagement reflects the growing importance of corrosion-resistant materials in critical subsea infrastructure.”
Atapu-2 is the second development phase of the Atapu pre-salt field in Brazil’s Santos Basin. The development will add the P-84 FPSO, designed for a production capacity of 225,000 barrels of oil per day and widely reported with 10 million cubic metres/day gas processing capacity.
Petrobras is developing Atapu-2 with partners including Shell, TotalEnergies, Petrogal Brasil and PPSA.
Brazil’s offshore developments commonly include defined environmental and supply chain expectations, with local content requirements embedded in contracting frameworks. Petrobras has publicly referenced local content targets for the P-84 platform.
The contract will be delivered through Brazil-based partners and logistics, aligning with in-country supply chain expectations for offshore developments
Cladtek’s delivery approach includes:
- Local content pathway – leveraging Brazil-based partners, suppliers and in logistics
- Reliable project execution – to be delivered from Cladtek’s Brazil facility with proven track record in ultra-deepwater projects.
- Responsible business practices – supported by Great Place to Work® certification in Brazil, ongoing investment in people development, and responsible sourcing across the supply chain.
