Billy Pugh is an industry expert in personnel transfer equipment for the offshore industry, with nearly 50 years of experience in creating and customising safety transfer equipment and accessories.
Billy Pugh’s current personnel nets are still based on the original, thanks to its strength, solidity and clever design. All nets are manufactured to the ABS equipment type approval programme, with ABS certification available.
Personnel transfer devices
Billy Pugh’s X-904 transfer device series is designed for use with offshore platforms and drilling rigs. Constructed from an aluminium frame with stainless wire ropes surrounding the rider, the nets provide overhead and side impact protection and feature a quick-release safety lanyard for extra security.
Transfer devices are able to transport between four and twelve persons, and are collapsible for storage and shipping. They also feature a shock-absorbing bottom, a non-slip floor, stretcher space and a double-braid polydacron rope coated in urethane with a stainless wire rope centre.
Note: The ten and twelve-person transfer devices cannot ship regular motor freight as a permit is required.
Accessories and personnel net boxes
Billy Pugh manufactures various accessories to prolong the life of the equipment, as well as increase safety and staff security. Personnel net boxes protect the transfer net from harmful UV and salt conditions, and protective storage covers help guard the nets from the effects of being out in the elements.
Personnel net boxes come is a range of weights and sizes:
- 150lbs; 78in x 78in x 18in
- 200lbs; 90in x 90in x 18in
- 250lbs; 102in x 102in x 25in
- 300lbs; 102in x 102in x 25in
Collapsible work baskets
Steel work baskets built to OSHA specification are available for crane assisted and man lift / riding activities for industrial or land usage.
Where OSHA requirements aren’t available, Billy Pugh manufactures lightweight man baskets in two and four-person capacities.
Rescue nets for emergency situations
Billy Pugh manufactures a range of rescue nets and emergency response equipment for use by search and rescue crews around the world. The company’s range of helicopter rescue nets can carry up to twelve people at a time, collapse for compact transport and are the most widely used helicopter rescue device in the world.
Dual purpose rescue nets can be used either in basket mode or as a stretcher, when transporting an injured party.
Poly, nylon or sisal ropes have some inherent problems when used as tag lines; they can wrap round objects, get caught in pinch points, get slick and slippy and fray / catch on objects. Billy Pugh tag lines are tangle-resistant, don’t catch on pinch points, have horizontal wraps for better grip and are dipped in polyurethane for UV resistance and increased toughness.
Carabiner cadmium-plated tag lines conform to ANSI Z-359.1 (07) and are gate rated at 3,600lbs.
Where ABS type certificates are not available, we can have ABS produce a Statement of Fact certificate, but at a slight increase in cost.
