Scarabeo 8 is a semi-submersible drilling rig of the Moss CS 50 MKII type and one of the
largest facilities of its kind. The hull was constructed at the Sevmash shipyard near
Arkhangel’sk, Russia and is being fitted out at Fincantieri in Palermo, Sicily. It can operate at depths down to 10,000ft and drill to about 30,000ft. Scarabeo 8 is contracted to work for ENI Norway, operators of the Goliat Field, and has to be specially reinforced to withstand the harsh conditions of the Barents Sea.
