An article arising from a meeting between Elisa Hannan, international accounts executive for Stainless Steel World, and David Smith, Brown McFarlane’s sales director for stainless steel, has been published recently in the magazine.

"Largest Ex-Stock Duplex Plate……..in the world!"
A family owned business that has, over 120 years, developed in to one of the world’s largest specialist steel plate distributors, Brown McFarlane is now also firmly established as one of the world’s leading stockholders and processors of duplex and super duplex stainless steel plates.
The Brown McFarlane team operates from ten locations on three different continents in order to maintain close contact with their customers and markets and has strategically located warehouses and processing facilities in the U.K., Belgium, U.A.E., Singapore, and South Africa.
Their focus is on the supply of highly specified, quality steel plate products with one of the most diverse stock ranges available anywhere in the world running from carbon manganese through to super duplex stainless steel.
We met with David Smith, Stainless Sales Manager, in their Walsall offices who explained that Brown McFarlane holds a comprehensive stock of Duplex and Super Duplex stainless steel plate manufactured by Western European steel makers – "in fact we stock the largest duplex plate -in the world!" All plates in stock are certified to EN10204 3.2 in accordance with NORSOK MDS D45/D55 and to material grades 31803, 32750, and 32760.
Plates are stocked as large format up to 12,000 mm long and 3,000 mm wide. "This is designed to minimise fabrication costs for customers by reducing the amount of welding required. The large format also gives the opportunity to make the best possible use of each plate when ‘nesting’ the shapes required by our customers reducing waste and saving money."
Speaking with David it is easy to see why Brown McFarlane has a reputation for unrivalled expertise and knowledge in the plate industry!
