The top five companies accounted for 24% of patenting activity
Analysis of patenting activity by companies shows that BASF filed the most 3D printing patents within the oil & gas industry in Q2 2024. The company filed 24 3D printing-related patents in the quarter, compared with 24 in the previous quarter. It was followed by Arkema with 19 3D printing patent filings, PPG Industries (17 filings), and Baker Hughes (9 filings) in Q2 2024.
Patenting activity was driven by China with a 25% share of total patent filings
The largest share of 3D printing related patent filings in the oil & gas industry in Q2 2024 was in China with 25%, followed by the US (21%) and Japan (11%). The share represented by China was 4% higher than the 21% share it accounted for in Q1 2024.
