The top five companies accounted for 34% of patenting activity
Analysis of patenting activity by companies shows that Toray Industries filed the most social responsibility patents within the oil & gas industry in Q2 2023. The company filed 4 social responsibility-related patents in the quarter, compared with 7 in the previous quarter. It was followed by DIC with 3 social responsibility patent filings, Toyobo (3 filings), and Midori Anzen (2 filings) in Q2 2023.
Patenting activity was driven by Japan with a 32% share of total patent filings
The largest share of social responsibility related patent filings in the oil & gas industry in Q2 2023 was in Japan with 32%, followed by China (24%) and the US (24%). The share represented by Japan was 18% higher than the 14% share it accounted for in Q1 2023.
