Canada’s oil & gas industry registered a 3.3% rise in IT hiring activity in February 2022 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics database.

The industry’s overall hiring increased by 3.6% in February 2022 when compared with January 2022.

Out of the oil & gas industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed a 5.22% share in February 2022, recording a decrease of 0.16% over the last three-month average share.

Top five job classifications in Canada’s oil & gas industry’s IT recruitment activity in February 2022

Out of the total job titles, the top five roles commanded a 100% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of Canada’s oil & gas industry in February 2022.

1) Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers recorded a share of 49.09% in February 2022, registering a 17.39% growth over the previous month.

2) Miscellaneous Computer Occupations claimed a 23.64% share, a decrease of 43.48% over the previous month.

3) Database and Network Administrators and Architects held a share of 20%, registering a 15.38% decline from January 2022.

4) Computer and Information Analysts captured a share of 5.45%, down 40% over the previous month.

Top five oil & gas companies in Canada’s IT recruitment activity in February 2022

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average growth of 77.78% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of Canada’s oil & gas industry during February 2022 over January 2022.

Koch Industries posted 11 IT jobs in February 2022 and registered a rise of 450% over the previous month, followed by Parkland with 8 jobs and a 33.33% growth. Nutrien with 5 IT jobs and TC Energy with 4 jobs, recorded a 66.67% growth and a 20% decrease, respectively, while Suncor Energy recorded an increase of 100% with 4 job postings during February 2022.

Junior Level job postings dominate in February 2022

Junior Level jobs held a share of 60%, down by 21.43% from January 2022. Mid Level positions with a 25.45% share, registered an increase of 40% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Entry Level job ads with a 14.55% share, down 33.33% over January 2022.
