Canada’s oil & gas industry registered an 8.1% rise in IT hiring activity in October 2022 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics database.

The industry’s overall hiring is decreased by 11.34% in October 2022 when compared with September 2022.

Out of the oil & gas industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed a 4.89% share in October 2022, recording an increase of 0.95% over the last three-month average share.

Top five job classifications in Canada’s oil & gas industry’s IT recruitment activity in October 2022

Out of the total job titles, the top five roles commanded a 100% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of Canada’s oil & gas industry in October 2022.

1) Database and Network Administrators and Architects recorded a share of 31.11% in October 2022, registering a 40% growth over the previous month.

2) Computer and Information Analysts claimed a 30% share, an increase of 80% over the previous month.

3) Miscellaneous Computer Occupations held a share of 16.67%, registering a 25% decline from September 2022.

4) Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers captured a share of 15.56%, down 41.67% over the previous month.

Top five oil & gas companies in Canada’s IT recruitment activity in October 2022

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average growth of 59.38% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of Canada’s oil & gas industry during October 2022 over September 2022.

Nutrien posted 27 IT jobs in October 2022 and registered a rise of 285.71% over the previous month, followed by Enbridge with 9 jobs and a 200% growth. Parkland with 6 IT jobs and TC Energy with 5 jobs, recorded a 53.85% decline and a 37.5% decrease, respectively, while AltaGas recorded an increase of 300% with 4 job postings during October 2022.

Junior Level job postings dominate in October 2022

Junior Level jobs held a share of 46.67%, down by 12.5% from September 2022. Mid Level positions with a 35.56% share, registered an increase of 18.52% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Entry Level job ads with a 17.78% share, up 45.45% over September 2022.
