India’s oil & gas industry registered a 5.9% rise in IT hiring activity in May 2022 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics database.

The industry’s overall hiring increased by 5.09% in May 2022 when compared with April 2022.

Out of the oil & gas industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed a 15.81% share in May 2022, recording an increase of 1.24% over the last three-month average share.

Top five job classifications in India’s oil & gas industry’s IT recruitment activity in May 2022

Out of the total job titles, the top five roles commanded a 97.27% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of India’s oil & gas industry in May 2022.

1) Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers recorded a share of 62.73% in May 2022, registering a 14.81% decline over the previous month.

2) Miscellaneous Computer Occupations claimed a 14.24% share, a decrease of 30.88% over the previous month.

3) Computer Support Specialists held a share of 8.18%, registering a 30.77% decline from April 2022.

4) Database and Network Administrators and Architects captured a share of 7.88%, down 23.53% over the previous month.

Top five oil & gas companies in India’s IT recruitment activity in May 2022

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average decline of 25.14% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of India’s oil & gas industry during May 2022 over April 2022.

Shell posted 156 IT jobs in May 2022 and registered a drop of 33.62% over the previous month, followed by Koch Industries with 34 jobs and a 30.61% drop. Baker Hughes with 34 IT jobs and Yara International with 31 jobs, recorded a 20.93% decline and a 10.71% growth, respectively, while Engro recorded an increase of 72.73% with 19 job postings during May 2022.

Junior Level job postings dominate in May 2022

Junior Level jobs held a share of 63.94%, down by 12.08% from April 2022. Mid Level positions with a 31.52% share, registered a decline of 38.46% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Entry Level job ads with a 4.55% share, down 37.5% over April 2022.
