
The global oil & gas industry noticed a 14.1% drop in IT hiring activity in November 2022 over the previous month, led by Fugro’s 5.42% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.
The oil & gas industry’s overall hiring activity declined 12.84% when compared with October 2022.
Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 4.95% share of the global oil & gas industry’s hiring activity in November 2022, down 0.12% over the last three-month average share.
According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of November 2022 were 16.61% lower when compared with the previous month.
The decrease was a result of 36.62% higher job postings as compared to job closures during the month.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 35.85% emerged as the top IT occupation in the oil & gas hiring activity in November 2022, a 43.14% decline over the previous month. Database and Network Administrators and Architects came in second with a share of 26.49% in November 2022, down 35.19% over the previous month.
The other prominent IT roles include Computer and Information Analysts with an 18.24% share in November 2022, a decline of 32.36% over the previous month, and Miscellaneous Computer Occupations with a 10.38% share in November 2022 and a drop of 33.33% over October 2022.
Top five oil & gas companies by recruitment activity in November 2022
The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average growth of 22.27% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global oil & gas industry during November 2022 over October 2022.
Fugro posted 69 IT jobs in November 2022 and registered a flat growth over the previous month, followed by PI Industries with 57 jobs and a 13.64% decline. Baker Hughes with 57 IT jobs and BASF with 49 jobs, recorded a 28.75% decline and a 32.43% rise, respectively, while Yara International recorded a 4.35% rise with 48 job postings during November 2022.
Regional composition of IT hiring in oil & gas industry
North America emerged as the leading region in the global oil & gas IT hiring activity in November 2022 with a 44.34% share, which marked a 37.54% drop over the previous month.
Asia-Pacific stood next with 24.37%, registering a 53.17% month-on-month decline. Europe was the third leading region with a 23.27% share and a 21.69% drop over October 2022.
In the fourth place was Middle East & Africa with a share of 4.72% and a month-on-month rise of 25%. South & Central America stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 3.3%, registering a 2.44% increase over the previous month.
