
The global oil & gas industry noticed an 8.7% drop in IT hiring activity in October 2022 over the previous month, led by Reliance Industries 8.61% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.
The oil & gas industry’s overall hiring activity declined 6.63% when compared with September 2022.
Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 5.31% share of the global oil & gas industry’s hiring activity in October 2022, down 0.28% over the last three-month average share.
According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of October 2022 were 11.6% lower when compared with the previous month.
The decrease was a result of 22.17% higher job postings as compared to job closures during the month.
Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers drive oil & gas IT hiring activity
Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 37.04% emerged as the top IT occupation in the oil & gas hiring activity in October 2022, a 22.61% decline over the previous month. Database and Network Administrators and Architects came in second with a share of 24.69% in October 2022, down 14.48% over the previous month.
The other prominent IT roles include Computer and Information Analysts with an 18.99% share in October 2022, a decline of 15.35% over the previous month, and Miscellaneous Computer Occupations with a 9.94% share in October 2022 and a drop of 42.78% over September 2022.
Top five oil & gas companies by recruitment activity in October 2022
The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average decline of 3.27% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global oil & gas industry during October 2022 over September 2022.
Reliance Industries posted 175 IT jobs in October 2022 and registered a drop of 9.33% over the previous month, followed by Ecopetrol with 158 jobs and a 9.71% decline. Baker Hughes with 80 IT jobs and Nutrien with 78 jobs, recorded a 1.27% growth and a 2.63% rise, respectively, while Exxon Mobil recorded a 22.41% rise with 71 job postings during October 2022.
Regional composition of IT hiring in oil & gas industry
North America emerged as the leading region in the global oil & gas IT hiring activity in October 2022 with a 43.09% share, which marked a 20.07% drop over the previous month.
Asia-Pacific stood next with 26.41%, registering a 34.19% month-on-month decline. Europe was the third leading region with an 18.45% share and a 15.16% drop over September 2022.
In the fourth place was South & Central America with a share of 9.64% and a month-on-month drop of 11.31%. Middle East & Africa stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 2.41%, registering a 2% decrease over the previous month.
