Malaysia’s oil & gas industry registered a 3.6% rise in IT hiring activity in March 2022 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics database.

The industry’s overall hiring increased by 4.79% in March 2022 when compared with February 2022.

Out of the oil & gas industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed a 17.33% share in March 2022, recording a decrease of 0.87% over the last three-month average share.

Top five job classifications in Malaysia’s oil & gas industry’s IT recruitment activity in March 2022

Out of the total job titles, the top five roles commanded a 100% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of Malaysia’s oil & gas industry in March 2022.

1) Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers recorded a share of 69.7% in March 2022, registering a 9.52% growth over the previous month.

2) Computer Support Specialists claimed a 12.12% share, an increase of 300% over the previous month.

3) Miscellaneous Computer Occupations held a share of 9.09%, registering a flat growth from February 2022.

4) Computer and Information Analysts captured a share of 6.06%, down 66.67% over the previous month.

Top five oil & gas companies in Malaysia’s IT recruitment activity in March 2022

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average growth of 35% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of Malaysia’s oil & gas industry during March 2022 over February 2022.

Shell posted 10 IT jobs in March 2022 and registered a rise of 66.67% over the previous month, followed by BASF with 9 jobs and an 80% growth. Evonik Industries with 4 IT jobs and Koch Industries with 2 jobs, recorded a flat growth and a flat growth, respectively, while BP recorded a decline of 33.33% with 2 job postings during March 2022.

Junior Level job postings dominate in March 2022

Junior Level jobs held a share of 72.73%, up by 26.32% from February 2022. Mid Level positions with a 21.21% share, registered a decline of 12.5% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Entry Level job ads with a 6.06% share, down 50% over February 2022.
