North America witnessed a 16.2% drop in IT hiring activity in the oil & gas industry in November 2022 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics dashboard.

November 2022 has seen a decrease of 14.94% in the overall hiring activity when compared with October 2022.

IT jobs accounted for a 3.95% share in the industry’s total hiring activity in November 2022, registering a decrease of 0.01% over the last three-month average share.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations leads by classification in November 2022

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations emerged as the leading IT occupation in North America with a share of 29.26% in November 2022, a 31.25% drop over the previous month. Database and Network Administrators and Architects came in next, claiming a share of 26.24% in November 2022, marking a 44.36% month-on-month decline. In the third place was Computer and Information Analysts with a share of 24.11% in November 2022, a 32.67% drop from October 2022.

Miscellaneous Computer Occupations registered a share of 9.93% in November 2022, a 34.88% decline over the previous month.

Top five oil & gas companies in North America’s IT recruitment activity in November 2022

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average decline of 30.48% in the overall IT recruitment activity of North America’s oil & gas industry during November 2022 over previous month.

Nutrien posted 31 IT jobs in November 2022 and registered a decline of 56.34% over the previous month, followed by Halliburton with 30 jobs and a 3.23% drop. Saudi Kayan Petrochemical with 27 IT jobs and ShawCor with 23 jobs, recorded a 2600% rise and a 66.18% drop, respectively, while Sherwin-Williams recorded an 18.75% increase with 19 job postings during November 2022.

Country-wise composition of IT hiring in North America’s oil & gas industry

The US commanded a leading presence in the region’s oil & gas industry IT hiring activity with an 87.41% share in November 2022, a 38.3% decrease over October 2022. Canada featured next with an 8.87% share, down 42.53% over the previous month. Mexico recorded a 3.72% share, a growth of 23.53% compared with October 2022.

Junior Level job postings dominate in November 2022

Junior Level jobs held a share of 57.8%, down by 43.11% from October 2022. Mid Level positions with a 30.5% share, registered a decline of 25.22% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Entry Level job ads with 10.99% share, down 36.08% over October 2022, while Senior postings accounted for 0.71%, recording a month-on-month growth of 33.33%.
