Utica Shale witnessed a decrease of 6.64% in total oil and gas production to 617,892.15 boe/d in August 2021 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s USL48 database.

The oil and gas production in Utica declined 30.09% in August 2021 from 883,812.93 boe/d in August 2020. On a YTD basis, the total oil and gas production in the play decreased by 25.87% from the same period in 2020.

In Utica, oil production declined 5.01% in August 2021 as compared with the previous month, while gas production decreased by 6.71% to 3,443.49 mmcf/d.

On a YTD basis, oil production in the play decreased by 39.46% in 2021 when compared with the same period in 2020, while gas production declined by 25.13%. Out of the total oil and gas production in August 2021, oil held a 3.89% share, while gas had a 96.08% share.


In Utica, Ascent Resources emerged as the largest oil and gas producer, recording a total oil and gas production at 174,263.3 boe/d in August 2021, a decrease of 6.2% from the previous month. The company held a 32.6% share in oil production and 28.03% share in gas production in August 2021.
