BW Energy has commenced production from the Hibiscus South field in the Dussafu Licence offshore Gabon, about five months after its discovery.

The company discovered commercial volumes of oil in the Hibiscus South satellite prospect in November 2023.

The discovery was made through the DHBSM-1 appraisal well, which was drilled to a total depth of 6,002m from the MaBoMo production platform.

Currently, the DHBSM-1H well is producing between 5,000 and 6,000bpd, aligning with projected performance targets.

Situated approximately 5km south-west of the existing BW MaBoMo production facility, DHBSM-1H was drilled as a horizontal well to a depth of 5,960m into the Gamba sandstone reservoir.

This well taps into a separate reservoir with a deeper oil-water contact than the adjacent Hibiscus Field.

As per the third party 2P estimates, the DHBSM-1H well is expected to recover 6.6mbbl from an estimated 22mbbl of oil in place.

BW Energy CEO Carl K Arnet said: “We are very pleased with the safe and efficient execution of Hibiscus South fast-track development within a few months after making the initial discovery.

“This represents a material, low-cost and low-risk expansion of the Dussafu production and reserve base, demonstrating how our phased development strategy provides the flexibility to rapidly unlock significant value.”

Following the completion of the DHBSM-1H well, the Borr Norve jackup rig has already embarked on its next assignment, initiating drilling operations on the Ruche sidetrack well DRM-3H ST1.

In 2023, BW Energy commenced production from the third well in the Hibiscus/Ruche Phase 1 development.

Hibiscus/Ruche Phase 1 is part of the Dussafu licence offshore Gabon.
