KazMunaiGas Exploration Production has discovered oil and gas at the Rozhkovskoye field in Kazakhstan.

The well was drilled in 2013 in the northeast wing of the field. The U-24 well flowed at maximum rates of 1.9 kilo barrels of oil equivalent a day of light, dry crude oil and 6 million cubic feet a day of gas through a 9.5mm choke.

The company noted that positive test results from the new Bashkirian deposit increase the prospects of increasing the field’s reserves and a quantitative evaluation of reserve growth will occur after the results of additional exploration.

KazMunaiGas chief executive officer Abat Nurseitov said that the discovery of Bashkirian deposits at the Fyodorovskiy block confirms the high potential of the asset.

"This discovery is the result of consistent implementation of the planned exploration works focused on replacement and growth of the company’s resource base," Nurseitov added.

The 2P liquids hydrocarbon reserves of the Rozhkovskoye field increased to 7.9 million tonnes in 2013 from 5.4 million tonnes in 2012 as per the technical audits carried out in accordance with international standards. Production at the field is expected to start in 2017.
