Ocean Installer, in consortium with Oceaneering, has secured a significant contract from TotalEnergies EP Angola and its Block 17 partners.

Under the contract, Ocean Installer will execute transportation and installation work at the Girassol field life extension (GIR FLEX) project.

The contract is said to be the second-largest in the company’s history.

This initiative aims to prolong the operational life of the FPSO unit until 2031. The unit has been active since 2001.

Ocean Installer said it will leverage in-house expertise for project management, engineering and execution.

The project scope includes the recovery of old risers, installation of ten replacement risers and a gas lift umbilical.

Oceaneering, Ocean Installer’s consortium partner, will handle air and saturation diving services, as well as related project management, engineering and procurement activities.

The project management and engineering team from Ocean Installer will operate out of its Stavanger office.

The Girassol field, a deep-water oil field off the coast of Luanda, Angola, was discovered in 1996 and marked the first major find in Block 17.

Spanning an area of 14km x 10km, Girassol is located approximately 210km from the coast of Luanda.

TotalEnergies, with a 38% stake, operates Block 17. The other stakeholders include Equinor, ExxonMobil, BP, Eni and Sonangol P&P.

Ocean Installer CEO Kevin Murphy said: “The GIR FLEX replacement project is our most significant project award from TotalEnergies to date. This reflects the continued faith that TotalEnergies has placed in us, with several project awards since 2015.

“This award further enhances our strong track record in complex, production-critical offshore projects for the West African market.”
