Russian oil company Rosneft has given over 30 commercial and more than 40 test licences to oil and gas companies for the right to use RN-GRID, the first industrial hydraulic fracturing simulator in Eurasia.

The company transferred the RN-GRID usage rights to 25 oil field servicing and oil and gas companies.

Rosneft’s industrial simulator will enable oil and gas companies to improve the efficiency of hydrofracturing operations.

The company is the first to provide import substitution of software for hydrofracturing modelling, which is said to be several times cheaper than foreign software.

The import-substituting solution motivates the development of market and technologies in the field of operations related to hydrofracturing modelling.

Created in 2017 by RN-BashNIPIneft specialists, part of the Rosneft Corporate Research and Design Complex, the RN-GRID simulator allows to accurately describe the complex geometry of cracks that occur in a rock as a result of hydrofracturing.

The software package provides all operations and engineering evaluations, which are necessary for the design of hydraulic fracturing.

Until now, Rosneft has conducted more than 6,500 fracturing operations with full modelling cycle with the use of RN-GRID simulator at the company’s sites.

Every year, the company conducts more than 10,000 hydrofracturing operations at its production sites.

Last May, Rosneft signed agreements to supply oil and gas products to Mongolia and Ghana at the XXII St Petersburg International Economic Forum.

In December 2017, the company’s board approved a five-year strategy to bring qualitative changes to its business through the introduction of new technologies and increased returns of existing assets.
