Shearwater GeoServices has secured a contract from Aker BP to carry out an ocean bottom seismic (OBS) 4D survey at the Ivar Aasen field in the Norwegian North Sea.

Located west of the Johan Sverdrup field in the North Sea, the Ivar Aasen oil field was discovered in 2009 by the Norwegian oil company Det norske.

Shearwater plans to commence the survey in the second quarter of this year. The company will employ its multi-purpose vessels, the SW Cook and SW Tasman, featuring proprietary technology.

Shearwater GeoServices CEO Irene Waage Basili said: “This is a welcome return to the Ivar Aasen field for Aker BP with Qseabed.

“Shearwater is established in all segments of high-end offshore seismic, executing our clients’ projects with the technologies of their choice, including market-leading solutions for ocean bottom seismic.”

Located in the northern part of the North Sea, about 175km west of Karmøy, the Ivar Aasen field is situated at a water depth of approximately 110m.

The field has been developed as a stand-alone platform for partial processing, and water conditioning and injection.

For final processing and export, the field will transfer the multiphase hydrocarbon mixture through two pipelines to the neighbouring Edvard Grieg field.

Recently, Shearwater was selected by Petrobras to undertake the deepwater OBN seismic acquisition for the Tupi and Iracema projects in the Santos Basin offshore Brazil.
